Video Transcript for Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier Review FHDSTC0101

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, I'm gonna be checking out the Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier. So this is gonna mount on your boat trailer and it gives it a little bit of a rise, so the tire is not on the ground but it gives it a nice place to stay, that way it's here if you ever need to use it. Let's check it out. It's gonna fit four, five and six sized lug wheels, so that's gonna be that there. And then it's gonna fit a diameter of up to 16.5 inches, that's because the slider holes here or where carriage bolts are can move in or out just a little bit to accommodate all those different sizes.

It's also gonna fit on trailers up to three inches wide and five inches tall. One of the nice things about this carrier is it's gonna have 4 3/4 inches of rise, so it comes up and off the trailer and then seven inches of offset, so not only does it lift it up but it makes it go away from the trailer, that way if you are tight of space, the tires aren't rubbing up on anything. Also has a weight capacity of 45 pounds and then the whole construction of is gonna be a steel construction with a zinc plane. So you can leave it out on your trailer attached and don't worry about the elements bothering it. Also, it's a very easy installation.

You just bolt it on, it comes with all the hardware you need, check out how we did it. First thing we wanna do for the installation is get the hardware set up. So we have our plate that's gonna go on the other side of our trailer frame. Make sure you use the offset hole, that's gonna be this one at the top that's kinda separated from the other ones there. We line it up with a plate here and that's how we're gonna do that.

Then we'll take our U bolt, is included, we'll run through the top two holes, so that's what this plate is gonna hang on. So we're gonna go through that offset hole I was talking about and then we can add our hardware. So we've got a lock washer and a nut. So put that lock washer on and then we'll add our nut. Now we can bring that out.

Do this same thing on the other one. And then we can set it on the trailer. Now, we're gonna set this down here on the frame and see how it lines up, bring those plates in, I'm just gonna run them hand tight. So it kinda holds itself up and I'll come back with the other U bolt and make that attachment at the bottom. And I can take the U bolt, let's see we go through here at the bottom, it's a little far away from the frame, I think we can go one up and line up those holes. There we go. It's through both ends and we'll come back with our lock washer and nut on the backside. I'm gonna come back here with our impact and tighten it down. Gonna try and do it evenly, that way it doesn't get out away. Now with the setup, we're gonna go ahead and run our carriage bolt through here. Then we'll put our push nut on. Then turn that, as it goes all the way down and make sure the flat side goes against the flat side of our bracket here and try and make sure that it's on there straight. So you don't want it kind of offset or anything that could cause issues when you go to add the tire but ours looks like it's flat against there. This one looks flat on this side, we're ready for the tire. Just gonna line up the holes in the center, those push nuts are gonna prevent the carriage bolts from coming back out of the backside when you push in the tire. Try and get both of them in there, there we go. So I'm gonna hold it up with one hand and then add the hardware with the other. So I'ma grab the one side first, gonna do a washer, let me pull this in a little bit more. I get the lock washer on there and the nut. With that on there helping me out, get a couple turns on that one, see that thread come through. That way I know it's not popping off. I don't have to hold the tire up there anymore and grab the other hardware and do the same thing for this one. And come back with the impact, tighten it down. There you go, it's nice and tight, not going anywhere. Really is that easy to get it installed, I like it. It's a nice way to keep your tire out of the boat and out of the way, you don't have to store it in your vehicle or in the boat. It's got a nice place to stay right here on the trailer, that way it's gonna be here when you need to use it. Well, I think that does it, thanks for hanging out. I hope this helps..

I has been on my trailer for a year now, in Vermont exposed to the elements. Rock solid, no rattles and looks like new.

Fantastic - rock solid and no rust!

by:

It hasn’t bent at the neck like similar cheaper products have in the past. That’s why I shop on etrailer.

by:

Just installed this. Installation was easy and included all the parts I needed. Seems well made and sturdy enough to hold a large, heavy, six lug spare. Will see how it goes after a few miles on the highway.

by:

The product is simple and sturdy. It took 5 minutes to install. My tire is a full sized 16.5” rim with tire and six lugs (3.5” on center Lug spacing) and it fit without a problem. The weight of the tire is nearing its high end of weight capacity. Overall great.

My only concern is the bolts mount “inward” toward the boat. It would be helpful for some rubber plugs or some alternatives or I might just reverse the bolts so the tire blocks the bolts remaining extension of threads.
Even still it’s simple and easy to install. Check out the end result, (you can’t even see the mount) tire and cover.

No complaints and working well!

by:

Purchased this to add a spare tire mount to my older trailer. It bolted right up as indicated in the instructions and my six-lug rim bolted right up as well. Very sturdy and will work out great on my trailer!

This is a strong, sturdy spare tire mount

by:

This is just the ticket if your trailer does not have a spare tire mount. It mounted easily to my boat trailer frame. There is very little vibration even when pulling along the mountain roads I travel to get to my favorite lakes. I like that the mount is higher than other mounts. It is also very sturdy and the welds are clean and strong. Lots of folks have looked at it and admired it. I've attached two pictures as it is on my trailer. All in all, it was just what I was looking for and is a great product.

Ordered the Fulton Hi-Mount 6 lug spare tire carrier and it arrived on time and was very easy to attach to my boat trailer. Appears to be very well made and sturdy.

by:

Put this on my boat trailer. Very easy to install and isn't bulky or get in the way of the boat. I was tired of keeping the spare tire in the back of the pickup and this works perfect. Hard to find 6 lug spare tire carriers in stores and I feel for the price, this is a very good product. I will certainly come to etrailer first anytime I need anything else.

by:

Searched for a good while for a spare tire carrier to fit my aluminum utility trailer that has 2”x5” frame, fit perfect and was a snap to install!

by:

Right item and appears to be of high
Quality.
Would have been an easy install
If mounted at my first choice location. But
The spare tire would have hit the bumper of truck when turning. I had to improvise
And drill holes thru tool box and frame.
Appears to be strong enough (I’m not an
Engineer). I am pleased with the product.
I installed it on a dump trailer. I am also
Pleased with the fast shipping on this and previous order. Thanks!

by:

Bought this in 2020 and the U bolt broke this summer. Lasted 3 years… not impressive. I was fortunate the whole thing did not fall off at 75mph. The tube design and tire mount is good, I am going to upgrade the U bolt to a larger size and hope for the best.

by:

The trailer spare tire mount is a great quality for a great price and with stands the elements

by:

The spare tire carrier fits perfect and the spare tire which is a 15 inch 5 bolt pattern fits perfect on the spare tire carrier. This is an excellent product and I highly recommend to anyone that needs this particular model.

by:

Great product! Quality materials and hardware! Perfect fit! Easy install! Should last longer than I do!

by:

The bracket fit well, was easy to install, and provides a strong and secure mount for my spare.

by:

All of these are working out really well. I especially like the Fulton spare tire carrier, mounted on the trailer tongue towards the front---gives about 1.5 inches of clearance between the boat and the mounted spare tire. The adjustable height of the mounting arm was really a nice feature for my application. I've use Lubrimatic marine grease for years, and expect long life from this brand. The Bow Stop has the perfect angle to receive the bow of my 1970 classic Glastron Futura V 153, and so far appears to be non-marring to the finish of the boat. Very happy with all of these items!

After one year of use, the Fulton spare tire carrier has worked out perfectly for my application. Not advertised with the product is an advantage that allows about 1-2 height adjustment, as well as a rotation of the tire carrier to fit the angle of the V hull front of the boat. This small rotation feature of the mount is very useful when the tire hits the bow of the hull, as mine did. I simply rotated the holding arm just enough to allow the clearance needed. These are great features that allowed the tire carrier to fit perfectly on my boat trailer. After a year of service and exposure to the weather, there is no rust, so the zinc plating is holding up well, although I only use the trailer in fresh water. Great productand nice unadvertised adjustable fit.

by:

The tubing and the welding are very strong, and it is a great match to my trailer. I have a 4' tongue on my trailer so i installed the spare tire rack half way on the tongue
so nothing can hit my bumper or tailgate to damage them. Looks great and is a very good tire rack

GREAT Fits and still looks new

by:

Well I received the new tire carrier today. I knew it would be a close fit. I had gone over the specs with your rep who called the factory to get some more measurements which let me see that it might fit. I installed it today with only some minor adjustments necessary. Woo- hoo.
The unit is well designed and made.with a nice anti rust coating. I hope to get many years use out of it. Thanks etrailer for your professionalism, you were very helpful.

The Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier # FHDSTC0101 works with trailer tongues from 3" to 5" tall and can fit a 4, 5 and 6 lug wheels. I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Fulton Spare Tire Carrier, # FHDSTC0101, and tested it on a 16 inch wheel with an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. The wheel fit just fine and has the same bolt pattern and diameter as your wheel. But the capacity is just 45 pounds so keep that in mind. The carrier uses 1/2 inch bolts but since your 5/8 inch hole is larger it is not an issue and the carrier will still fit.

  • Recommended Spare Tire Carrier for Aluminum Trailer Frame
I do have some options for you but most of our marine spare tire carriers are zinc plated, not galvanized or stainless. That said, there should not really be any issues with this and the aluminum. I recommend the Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier part # FHDSTC0101 and Offset Trailer Spare Tire Carrier by Dutton-Lainson part # DL22120. Please note, the frame is a bit wide for these so you may need to find some longer bolts but other than that they should fit great.

The number 205 represents the section width of the tire, in millimeters. To convert to cm you move the decimal point once to the left. This is the measurement of the tire at its thickest point. If you want to convert centimeters to inches, divide the number of centimeters by 2.54. 1 Inch is about equal to 2.54 centimeters. Example:...
