Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

This hitch arrived 3 days after I placed my order online which I thought was excellent
I had never installed a hitch before so I did read the instructions and after doing so checked that all the hardware was accounted for. Everything was accounted for so I went to work. Within an hour/hour and a half the hitch was installed.
I'm pleased with the results and would recommend this company moving forward.

2009 Ford Escape

Great product, finish looks great. Installation was fast and easy. I did have help from a buddy that put a few on before and I'm mechanically inclined, so more hands equal less work.

by:

I am not very mechanically inclined and I watched a how to video on YouTube and within an hour I had it on and its solid! It fit perfectly. Great product.

by:

Great buying experience and pretty easy to install. (I am a mechanic). I don't use hitch as much as expected but still seems to be holding up great after a year. Good product at a reasonable price.

by:

Well designed. Tight area to fit. I have bought several Hitches from you thru the years. All have been satisfactory.

by:
2005 Ford Escape

Hitch lined up nicely for my escape. Was shipped fast and the tracking on-site is very nice! Installation went pretty smooth. Highly suggest watching the video. For instance on my year the holes that the bolts are fed through needed enlarging. Only complaint was it would have been nice to have 6 wires for feeding the bolts instead of 4 but I just did. Side at a time. Overall very happy.

2012 Ford Escape

Good experience.

by:

Installed in under 45 minutes with just a creeper and some simple hand tools. Didn’t have a Jack or anything but was able to hang it in place and then run bolts through. High quality good looking hitch!

After much research about hitches for my 2008 Ford Escape I settled on etrailer because of the detailed information concerning installation. I am visually oriented so having video to guide me was a huge help! In just an hour I had the hitch done! I need to use a small trailer from time to time and the car had no hitch on it. This will help me when I need to make a trip to the dump, haul off spring clean-up and get my Pelican boat to the lake. If their were ten more stars to click on I would click on number 10 for sure!

by:

Installation was easy and the finish looks great. The only thing I would mention is that the instructions say a 2007 and later model year mariner/escape/tribute should have open ended frame rails and mine were sealed but a few minutes with some large drill bits took care of my access problem

by:

Thanks for the shipping upgrade and prompt delivery. The Curt hitch and wiring harness went on with ease just as advertised. I installed the hitch and wiring harness in my garage with the help of my 11 year old son (see attached photo). The video on etrailer.com was a terrific help. I am already looking for things to attach to my new hitch on etrailer.com. You have my business, and I will certainly pass along your web site to all in need of parts.

by:

Not much to say- it's a hitch, and it fit! Very fast shipping, and good communication. Will use etrailer again in the future.

by:

Just completed the hitch install. It was very easy, had a little trouble around the exhaust but no big deal. Very nice hitch and shipping was fast. I will definitely recommend etrailer to anyone needing a hitch.

by:

It's super sturdy holds up great under heavy loads extremely pleased with the product.

by:

Everything arrived fine and undamaged. The install video really helps. Having a second pair of hands to balance things will help. I just used a floor jack and a bottle jack to lift things up with the two bolts that point down and are to the front already in. After lifting just get those two nuts on and fish the rest in without a problem. Like others have said, why that extra spacer / washer on the front passenger side bolt, I put it on but see no reason for it.
I would like to know why it is there.

  • What Stabilizing Strap Should be Used with a CURT Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Ford Escape
On CURT Class I and II (and some Class III) trailer hitches, CURT requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, for non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers to be in compliance with their warranty requirements. The strap is meant to help support the accessory mounted in the rack which relieves some stress on the hitch. I recommend going with a Class III etrailer, # e56AR, for your 2010 Ford Escape because cost is similar and the etrailer hitch does not require a strap....

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2010 Mazda Tribute without Backup Sensor
Yes, if you plan on towing a trailer and not just use it for non-trailer loads like a bike rack or a cargo carrier, you need a wiring harness to power up the trailer lights. If your 2010 Mazda Tribute is equipped with a factory tow package you need item # 118251. If your vehicle does not have a factory tow package, then you need item # 118551. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118551 will work either with or without backup sensors. I recommend the 4-Flat Mounting Bracket # 18144 for a...

  • Comparison of Class III Receivers Available for 2009 Ford Escape
Of the different hitches available for your 2009 Escape, I would recommend the Curt Class III # 13650 or the etrailer Class III # e56AR. Both require no drilling or welding and include the compete hardware along with installation instructions. In the installation instructions, Curt recommends using a drill or Dremel tool to enlarge an access hole in the frame. This hole is used to fish a bolt and block washer into the interior of the frame member. However, since your Escape is 2007 or...

  • Options for Towing Trailer and Carrying Bike Rack on 2009 Ford Escape
We do not have a dual receiver hitch for your 2009 Ford Escape with a 1-1/4 receiver hitch, however we do have several excellent options for you. You can use a Class III hitch like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver, # e56AR. Check out the installation instructions that I have included for you. With this hitch you have the option of using a Hitch Mounted Towing Bike Rack # S64675. This rack fits firmly over the ball mount of your 2" receiver, enabling you to tow your trailer while carrying...

  • Will the Draw-Tite # 36501 Receiver Fit with an OEM 1-1/4 Receiver on a 2005 Mazda Tribute
Since the trailer hitch # 36501 with a 1-1/4" receiver mounts the same as the etrailer # e56AR with the 2" receiver on your 2005 Mazda Tribute it will fit with an OEM 1-1/4" receiver but there really wouldn't be an advantage of using this receiver over the OEM receiver. Instead of the 1-1/4" option I recommend going with the 2" receiver because it will allow you to use a wider variety of accessories. Please note that whichever way you do end up going you cannot use both receivers at the...

  • Will a Trailer Hitch from a Different Vehicle Fit a 2006 Ford Escape
There are several trailer hitches that will fit the 2006 Ford Escape and it is possible that those hitches will fit other vehicles so the opposite can also be true. I will break down each of the hitches to determine which vehicles they fit. Curt hitch # 13650 and etrailer hitch # e56AR both fit: 2005 - 2012 Ford Escape 2005 - 2011 Mercury Mariner 2005 - 2011 Mazda Tribute Curt hitch # C13651 fits: 2005 - 2011 Ford Escape 2005 - 2011 Mercury Mariner 2005 - 2011 Mazda Tribute Draw-Tite...

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75782 is the best fit for your 2014 Ford Escape Titanium. This hitch is designed for the hands-free lift gate system to work as originally designed without any modifications needed. This hitch will have a really nice look installed and I've attached a video of this installation to assist. Since your Escape was outfitted with a 1-1/4 trailer hitch, it is possible that you would be able to upgrade your trailer hitch to a 2 inch like the etrailer Class III # e56AR to support the weight of a bike rack like # S94FR and the seadoo trailer. • Comparing etrailer, Curt, and Draw-Tite Hitches for a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer
The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e56AR is the same as the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13650, the only difference is finish. The etrailer hitch has a matte finish and the Curt hitch has a glossy finish. They all look pretty similar but I agree with you that the Curt hitch has a bit of a tighter fit to the rear bumper than the Draw-Tite. The same goes for the etrailer. I recommend the etrailer hitch if you are looking to save a few bucks and I personally prefer the matte...

  • Will a Trailer Hitch Receiver From a 2017 Ford Escape Also Fit a 2008 Ford Escape?
In comparing a Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98866 for a 2017 Ford Escape with one that fits a 2008 Ford Escape # e56AR the mounting points are very different. For this reason you will not be able to bolt on the hitch from your 2017 to the 2008. Currently I do not see a hidden hitch available for your 2008 Escape. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118551 will give you a 4-way flat connector. This is the common connector used on smaller trailers and can also be used with Auxiliary Lights # C53201.
