What Stabilizing Strap Should be Used with a CURT Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Ford Escape
Question:
Re Curt #12060 - the web page states this: Note: All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt. What is this stabilizing strap? 2010 Ford Escape Thanks

On CURT Class I and II (and some Class III) trailer hitches, CURT requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, for non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers to be in compliance with their warranty requirements.
The strap is meant to help support the accessory mounted in the rack which relieves some stress on the hitch.
I recommend going with a Class III etrailer, # e56AR, for your 2010 Ford Escape because cost is similar and the etrailer hitch does not require a strap. Also, the 2 inch receiver on the etrailer Hitch will afford you more options for accessories than the 1-1/4 inch receiver on a Class II hitch. I have included a link to the installation details for the etrailer Hitch for your to check out.
