The items I ordered will allow me to adapt my utility trailer for transporting my sea kayaks. Curt and Hopkins are both quality manufacturers.
On a shipping note, the box arrived at the Post Office broken wide open. Your shipping folks need to wrap small, heavy, items in bubble wrap. Then stabilize it with foam peanuts. Just putting it in a box then stuffing the box with craft paper does not cut it. Items were not damaged so I am good to go.

Works great and reasonably priced. etrailer Customer Service is absolutely the very best. My first shipment arrived missing the hitch extension. Customer Service quickly responded to my communications and shipped a replacement the same day.
As you can see from the photo the hitch extender is perfect for my Polaris Ranger and allows me to use my small lawn n yard implements.
I highly recommend etrailer.

This extender does a pretty good job of keeping my bike away from the rear radar system in my Venza so the backup warning system does not engage in error. Beware it’s pretty heavy.

Still working as a year ago.

by:

perfect length for my specific application. Because the end piece is solid I was not able to insert an anti-rattle device into it. Therefore I will probably weld the extender to the double receiver since it'll be a permanent application.

by:

This hitch adapter has worked perfectly as an extension for using a bike rack that extends past the trailer spare tire.

by:

The extension works perfectly on my class C motor home. Now my cargo carrier doesn't interfere with the back ladder.

by:

I had a problem with my order, which called for the order to be sent again. I received the second order in two days, which was greatly appreciated! The items I received were exactly what I wanted and high quality. The customer service to fix my order problem was excellent!

by:

Good quality for fair price. The perfect extension I needed for my fifth wheel to install a bike raxk

by:

This product is solid and clearly can handle the weight load as stated.

by:

Fits trailer perfectly...arrived in ti.ely fashion...thank you

by:

Good work, efficient servive

by:

I had a back ordered item that eventually came along with some other items I ordered at the same time. I’m not good about waiting but the wait was worth it as the entire order came a couple days ago and I immediately started using the items. Thanks for getting it right.

Works very well just like advertised.

by:

Curt’s brand, only the best! USA made, The shaft that goes into the hitch is solid steel not the hollow China crap. I used the hitch extension to make a rear hitch step 12” wide by 38” long for my ford van. I strap my kayaks on top for when we go camping this step just gives me that need height to get them in the kayak saddles before I climb on top to tie them down. I put two kayaks on top so the 38” across comes in handy. With my front hitch I can also put it in the front when I’m working on my van or truck to give me that extra hieght - I’m 6’ and I can’t reach a lot of stuff, even cleaning the windshield.

by:

Box was damaged and there was no item in box I already called and spoke to a nice customer service lady

by:

It is pretty long so works well with exterior spare tire vehicles or if you want access to truck tailgates down with load extenders. Have not used it in that capacity as of yet.

by:

The weld looks solid, but needs ground down, or the hole drilled in a different location. The weld prevented the holes to line up. I had to go get a grade 5 1/2" bolt to secure it in place, rather than a hitch pin.

by:

Works great had one on my Motorhome it broke had to buy a new one on the road way to long

Hasnt given me any problems yet

I order a 14" steel (2" type) hitch extension and I received a heavy steel, well-made extension; as advertised. eTrailer found that upgraded faster shipping was available at the same price as regular slower shipping, so they upgraded me. Very nice service!

by:

This product is well built and quality! It allows me to use the hitch platform on my Jeep liberty without having to remove the spare tire. Exactly what I was looking for and a quick delivery as well! Great investment.

by:

Thank you for your email, I was amazed how quick I received my item. Just bought a newtruck I tow an atv and on my old truck I dented up my tailgate from the device that lowers and raises the trailer, this extender did the trick, now the tailgate on my new truck won't get all screwed up.

by:

Just what it says fits great. eTrailer is fast and easy as always. Great experience shopping with.

by:

Worked great ! Solved problem opening tailgate on jeep tj with spare tire mounted. Opens enough to reach in .

by:

Product is just what we needed and we put it to use immediately with no problems. It enables us to freely engage the rear lift door of our vehicle with my handicap scooter loaded on it's carrier. Great for us.

by:

Great service!!

Ordered a 14 inch trailer extension and the quality is a 10 out of 10. Probably weighs 25lbs. Was very quickly sent to me, really days before I expected it. Great company to do business with.

  • How Much Does Hitch Extender Reduce Tongue Weight Capacity
The answer is actually pretty simple, because using any type of hitch adapter, including a hitch extender, reduces the capacity of your trailer hitch by 50 percent, and that includes both the towing capacity and the tongue weight capacity. I am not certain what the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 is, but using the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795 or the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Receivers -18" Long # C45796 will reduce that...

  • Why Do Hitch Extenders Reduce Hitch Capacity
Hitch extenders like the Kuat # HL20B and similar items # C45791, # C45795 and # HE12 do give you more clearance to install a hitch accessory like the SportRack Ridge Swing 4 Bike Rack # SR2415 but the trouble is these extenders also reduce the hitch's tongue weight (TW) capacity by 50-percent. All adapters like these push the actual weight of the loaded bike rack further away from the hitch and this means the rack's weight will put more stress on the hitch. The extra connection point...

  • Hitch Extender For 7,000 Lb Trailer Towed By Motor Home
The Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long part # C45795 is designed for 2" hitches and a maximum trailer weight of 3,500 lbs so it would not be a good fit for your 7,000 lb trailer. We do not have a good option for an extender to tow a 7,000 lb trailer because extenders do cut the tongue weight of the hitch on your vehicle in half. A better option is to use an extra long ball mount like Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop, Extra Long part # D-26 which measures 12-5/8" long...

  • Using a Hitch Extender on a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab
Adapters and extenders like the 14-inch Curt # 45795, the 7-inch Brophy # HE06 and those from Blue Ox do make it convenient to gain clearance in some applications but they also have the unavoidable negative side-effect of reducing your hitch's capacity by as much as 50-percent. Adapters also introduce the chance for more random motion and rattle in a towing system. It is never a good idea to use multiple extenders - even if welded together - as these items would not have been designed...

  • 14 inch Hitch Extender that Can be Used to Tow 4,500 lb Vehicle
We have a hitch extender that does have the capacity needed and is 14 inches long with the # ST12 but the Curt you referenced would not have the needed weight capacity as it is limited to towing up to 3,500 lbs. The # ST12 has a 7,000 lb towing capacity.

  • Do All Hitch Extenders Reduce Capacity for a 2018 Ford F-150
For a 14" hitch extender I recommend using the Curt Hitch Extender part # C45795. This extender will however reduce the weight capacity of your hitch by 50% or limit it to 350 lbs tongue weight (TW) and 3,500 lbs gross trailer weight (GW) whichever is the lower of the two. Unfortunately, the only hitch extender we have that will not reduce the trailer hitch's capacity is the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension but they do not make a trailer hitch that will allow you to use this extender...

  • 12 inch Hitch Extender for 2 inch Hitch that Can be Used for Towing
For a similar 14 inch hitch extender that can be used to tow a trailer we have the Curt part # C45795 which would work well. It has a capacity of 3,500 lb trailer weight but you need to keep in mind it cuts the capacity of the hitch it's installed in by 50 percent. Blue Ox's extender was made to be used with flat towing setups so that's why it's not rated for trailer use.

  • Compatibility of Hitch Extender with Adjustable Ball Mount with a Rise
A ball mount like the 180 Hitch 2-Ball Mount w/ Stainless Steel Balls # LTB4-2 will allow you to use the hitch ball rise position with the extender unless there is a noted restriction on your extension. Most extenders do not have that restriction. For instance, the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795 has restrictions of a maximum tongue weight of 350 lbs and maximum towing of 3,500 lbs. You will also want to recognize that the use of an extension will reduce...

The shortest hitch extender we offer is the part # C45791 which will give you an additional 8 inches of extension. Without knowing more details about your setup it's hard to say for sure if that would give you enough clearance but I would be wiling to be it is if what you have now almost would fold up. For your 2016 Jeep Wrangler with big tires, any bike rack will need a little help. I recommend the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795 which will decrease your hitch's tongue weight rating by 50% but will still give you all the capacity you need for even a 4-bike rack. I recommend securing this adapter with the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span # 63232 to keep the adapter firmly in place. If you are looking for a 4-bike rack,...

  • Can Curt Cargo Carrier be Extended 14 Inch for use on Van With Spare Tire
You can absolutely extend the 22-1/2x49 Aluminum Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18100- all you need is a 14" hitch extender and you'd be set. For that I recommend the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795. There is not a 10 inch option, but there are many similar sizes that may work for your application. For instance, the Roadmaster Hitch Extender for Tow Bars--11 inches # RM-071 has a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs but only a tongue weight rating of 100 lbs. It is designed to be used for flat towing. Some extenders are only designed to be used to flat tow a vehicle and not to hold any tongue weight so make sure you choose an extender that is designed for carrying accessories since you're going to use it for a bike rack. If it is then you'd have to go with a different option like the Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver 14" Long part # HE12 which will allow for up to 4-1/2".
