Video Transcript for Malone QuickLash T-Style Bow and Stern Tie-Down Hood Loops Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone Quick Latch T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308. So once you have your kayak in place and you have it strapped down to the roof rack system, you do need bow and stern tie-downs for each end. However, if you don't have any tie-down points underneath or you don't have a hitch in installed in the back, one of the options you can utilize is the quick latch hood loop. So pretty much what these do is create tie-down points for the hooks of your bow and stern tie-downs and they have an end cap on the inside which is closed inside your hatch of your hood or the hatch of your trunk while you tie these down. The end caps are made from a polypropylene and are injection molded to this T-shape for superior fit and durability. This has a load capacity of 150 pounds, come in a quantity of two, and has a one year warranty. When comparing this to other products, two that come up are going to be the Rhino-Rack anchor strap, part number RRRBAS and the Thule Quick Lubes, part number TH530.As far as the most economical choice, that's going to go to the Malone. As far as quantity is concerned, that's going to go to both the Malone and the Thule as it comes with two hood loops or two loops with the Rhino-Rack strap only coming with one.As far as durability is concerned, that's going to go to the Malone as it's made from a harder material. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and show you how they work. We have our two hood loops here on our table.

This is pretty much what you're goin got get with the kit once you buy it.First, to install these, at least for our front portion of our tie-down, we're going to have to pop the hood open. With our hood open we have to find a good spot for our quick lash to set into place. We found that this area here will work just as long as it's in a spot where it's not going to get crushed by the hood.So with that in place we can now close our hood and our front quick lash is installed. Now we'll do the same at the rear. Again, making sure we're to putting it directly on the hatch, set it inside and we'll close our hatch on it and now we have our tie-down here as well. With everything in place, now we can attach our bow and stern tie-downs with no problem.

And there you have it for the Malone quick lash T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308.

I had no good place to tie down the bow of my kayak when mounted on my Suburban. The Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops fit perfectly under my hood and showed no signs of weakness!

by:

Perfect for vehicles with no convenient front/rear line anchors.

Used it frequently carried 2 kayaks no issues A little noisey &amp I used the install numbers to start &amp then adjusted for a great fit I would recommend this carrier to a friend!

by:

The tie downs are fine. I like the inflatable roof rack for transporting my kayak, but take it off your car if it’s going to rain, because the rain flows down the straps and inside the car!

by:

The T-Style hood loops work excellently and are easy to use. Would recommend for piece of mind so that you don't need to tie down the kayak to metal under the car hood.

by:

I have had these for 1 year now and have used them several times. They have worked exactly as advertised. Keeps my kayaks secure and once you have the process of mounting down it is pretty easy. Nice product.

by:

e.trailer as always is a great place to get boating accessories, including kayaking and canoeing, and I go there first before REI or other websites. Website and transactions are excellent, and shipping is fast. The online email included a PDF and two UTube videos of how to use my hood tie downs.
This show some real thought to after purchase help for customers.

by:

Exactly what I needed to attach a bow tie down for my kayak. (My car's front tie-down loops were unfortunately removed, so I really needed something like this. Solid material, super secure.

by:

These are great. New Toyota Highlander has no hooks for tie down. They really work very well and are easy to put on and off.

by:

So far so good. Product is easy to set up and instructions are easy to understand. Mounted on a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with OEM crossbars. It feels sturdy and durable. I like the folding feature easy to raise and lower.

by:

Great, easy way to secure my kayak. I have nothing to easily tie off to in the front of my vehicle, so being able to just close the hood on this and tie off to it is a great convenience.

by:

Not used them yet but they are great to tie down boats to vehicles!

by:

Works great in 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

by:

I can now load my 14' tandem kayak by myself. Excellent product.

by:

worked well and keep the kayaks safe when driving on the highway.

It's doing the job of securing my kayak to my prius that doesn't have front or back hooks.

  • Do Malone Hood Loops Need to be Encased in Metal?
You can use the Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops # MPG308 on your 2016 Honda CR-V. They do not need to be encased in metal, just make sure they are located as securely as possible. For bow/stern tie-down straps you can use the Thule Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes w/ Ratchets and Strap Loops # TH855XT.

  • Will Thules The Stacker Fit 2008 Nissan Xterra Factory Crossbars to Carry 2 Kayaks
The Stacker # TH830 will fit on your 2008 Nissan Xterra, however the Thule Xadapt3 # THXADAPT3, longer installation bolts, will be needed to fit around the Xterra's factory crossbars. I spoke with my contact at Thule and he confirmed that The Stacker requires the Xadapt3 bolts for your Xterra. The Stacker # TH830 comes with the tie-downs and bow and stern straps needed to secure 1 kayak. In order to secure the second kayak, you will need some additional straps. You can use the # TH855XT...

  • Where to Tie Down Kayaks Using Thule Stacker Kayak Carrier on a Pop-up camper Roof
What you are seeing in the video you mentioned for the Stacker kayak carrier # TH830 is a separate part; We have something very similar which are the Malone QuickLash Hood Loops, # MPG308. They do not come with the Stacker. What you would do is use the tie downs included with the carrier. They have hooks on the end that you can hook to the trailer frame or anywhere that is convenient.

  • Easiest Way To Load Two Kayaks on a 2011 Toyota Sienna
The best option I have for you to easily load two kayaks on top of your 2011 Toyota Sienna is going to be with the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier and TelosXL Load Assist w/ Tie-Downs part # MPG114MD-351XL and the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs part # MPG114MD. The reason that this is the best system for you is because it allows for one person, no matter their height or strength to easily load a kayak onto the roof of even the tallest vehicles. • Can 1 Set of Tie Downs be Used for 2 Kayaks on the Thule Stacker and 2015 Subaru Outback
You will likely be able to use just one set of tie downs for 2 kayaks and the Thule Stacker # TH830. Ultimately though it depends on the length of the vehicle. Longer vehicles require longer tie down straps. But on your 2015 Subaru Outback I do not anticipate there being an issue. Especially if you use Hood Loops # MPG308. If you do want to get another set of tie downs you can use # TH855XT.

Although we don't offer a universal rack system for your 2004 Optima, we do offer an inexpensive custom fit option from Inno that work great for you. The rack would be assembled using the following two parts: • Inno Square Crossbars, part # INB127 • Inno Roof Rack Foot Pack, part # INSUT • Vehicle Specific Clamp Kit, # INK146 Thule offers a great bike rack that would be compatible, part # TH598004. • Carrier for 2 Kayaks on 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with Factory Roof Rack
It's likely going to fit just fine but I checked with Thule and they haven't tested the Hull-A-Port XT on the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek as of yet so I can't say with certainty. It does fit the 2018 and the 2019 is the same generation so that's a good sign. A similar kayak carrier is the Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073. It is confirmed, by Yakima, to fit the 2019 Crosstrek and will also carry both your kayaks. I've linked videos on both of the carriers. With either of them I recommend adding...

  • How Does the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap Work with the Thule T2 Platform Bike Rack
To use the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap, # 18050, with a bike you would normally attach the # 18050 support strap at the trunk lip near the back glass on the vehicle. With the Thule T2 bike rack # TH9045, you would need to find a place to attach the hook on the end of the support strap so that the strap and buckle do not contact the vehicle. One option I have come up with is to use a Malone Hood Loop Tie-Down, # MPG308, along with a continuous loop strap like part # 753-2030-03. You...

  • Roof Rack And Kayak Carrier For 2005 Toyota Matrix With Naked Roof
We do have some options for your 2005 Toyota Matrix. You will want to make sure you do not exceed the roof weight capacity for your vehicle. You should be able to get that information from your owners manual or from a the dealership. I recommend the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack with Aero Crossbars. This will be an extremely tight fit, but you should be able to put two Yakima ShowDowns, part # Y04081 on a pair of Thule 78 inch crossbars equipped to your 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. If you actually have a set of 80 inch bars, you won't have any trouble. Prior to installing, be sure to verify your vehicle's roof capacity with your owner's manual or manufacturer. This capacity will include the weight of the rack, both carriers and the kayaks you are planning on carrying. Based on my research,...

  • Fit of Thule Hullavator Kayak Carrier on 2015 Subaru Outback With Factory Roof Rack
According to my Thule representative, their Hullavator sadly isn't compatible with the factory crossbars on your Outback, because they don't extend out past the side of the vehicle. The crossbars need to stick out several inches or the carrier will contact the side of the vehicle when its lowered. My next thought was that maybe aftermarket crossbars could be added, but I found that the unique side roof rails of your vehicle won't allow longer crossbars to be added. Your best bet would...

  • 2 Kayak Carrier for the Factory Roof Rack on a 2009 Subaru Forester
For 2 kayaks I recommend going with the Thule Stacker, # TH830. This carrier will fit the factory crossbars on your 2009 Subaru Forester and can hold your 2 kayaks. Essentially, what this carrier does, is provide vertical uprights that you can tie off 2 kayaks to. The Thule Stacker provides 2 attachment points to the crossbars per upright so it would be more secure. I recommend adding a couple of the Malone Hood Loops,MPG308, to provide easy to access tie down points to secure the bows...

By using these tiedowns you can attach the hooks to these instead of your vehicle which will prevent possible scratching at the vehicle attachment point. Additionally, a set of Malone Quick-Lash loops, part # MPG308 can be extremely useful for quickly adding easy to access tie down points to your hood for the bow of your kayaks. They also work in the trunk's hatch, but are a little harder to tie to.
