After speaking with my contact at Thule, I can tell you the Thule DockGlide Rooftop Kayak Carrier System # TH896 is a good fit for your 10-foot Portaboat on your Nissan Maxima. Prior to such a long trip, you will need to consult your vehicles owners guide to ensure your roof can hold the 75 lb weight capacity of the boat along with the weight of the carrier system itself.
This carrier does require a roof rack system to be installed on your vehicle. It will fit all Thule roof racks, Yakima round bar racks, and most factory racks. If you do not have one for your Maxima, just send me the year of your vehicle and I can provide you with some recommendations on a compatible roof rack.
