These are nice pieces. I converted from hydraulic to electric. They are made in america which I appreciate. No issues installing. etrailer was helpful with helping me with correct part numbers for my applications and the swap. I appreciate their customer service, knowledge and parts provided.

Great question ! I did a seasonal maintance inspection and cleaning on my electric break axle at the end of March. All of the break Assembly look excellent.I used W D 40 and Scottsbrite to remove any light corrosion.I used 400 grit sand paper on the hubs where the shoes meet the hub surface.I will reassemble the hubs next fall when I use the trailer again for snowmobiling.

The staff at eTrailer.com are very helpful and knowledgeable - ask if you're unsure. I originally ordered through the Internet and received the wrong products - because I neglected to ask questions. The return went smooth, but I had to pay for it (my error). The next round arrived well packaged (externally), but there was thin packing tape all over the outside of the hubs and some on the inside rubbing surface of the hubs. It took some doing to get it all off. There was a little rust on the non-contact surfaces of the hub as well as on the brake housing. On the brake housing, you can see some rust in the pic. Looks like it may have been rebuilt. This doesn't seem to have any effect on its operation though. Seals, Races & Bearings are super clean and fit perfectly. I installed these brakes onto the existing '4.5 on 5' flange on a 2000 pound axle (on a 2004 Aliner LX Classic Pop-up trailer). It came with the bolts to attach to the flange, but be sure to order the adjuster grommets, lock washers and 7/16x20 fine thread nuts, since it doesn't come with them. Once I got the wiring set up properly, it works exactly as it should. I prewired the setup prior to delivery. My error was that I assumed the only wire I'd need to run was the blue (brake) wire, but there are two wires on the brake housing as you can see in the picture. Either one goes to the blue (doesn't matter which) and the other attaches to the neutral (white) wire that goes back through the trailer's main wiring harness. Simply attaching the wire to the trailer frame (ground) like I initially did as seen in the picture looked like a good clean setup and easy solution to my one-wire mistake. Unfortunately, it DID NOT WORK. The secondary (neutral) wire must be detected by the tow vehicle's brake controller. Plan ahead and buy the blue and white primary wires (20 feet of 14 or 16 gauge will work) and run them next to each other before hand. Be sure to house the wires in 'plastic split loom tubing' so they don't rub against anything and zip tie them to the frame, so they're not hanging or in the way of anything. Happy braking. :-)

We haven't had much experience with etrailer yet but so far the service reps, products, and ordering process has been great. We are impressed without how promptly our items were shipped. We signed up to be a dealer and were thrilled to learn that etrailer wanted to credit us the difference from our order because we ordered before becoming a dealer. Then we found out etrailer also refers other customers who need a part install to local dealers which is awesome. So far everything about this company has been wonderful. Thank you.

by:

Excellant product, all put together and ready to bolt onto the backing plate. Wiring was plenty long enough, and a very simple and easy install.

The two LH brakes work fine. See my review of the RH brakes.

We towed the camping trailer all over Florida in February and March. All the brakes worked great!

by:

Parts arrived early and installed perfectly. Love the quality and how easy they bolted in.

by:

After grinding off old surge brakes, these went under my snowmobile trailer with a perfect fit. I mounted an electrical junction box 10ft back from the tongue, and that made wiring them much easier also. Last season, on a snowy trip back from up north, I was able to straighten out my sliding trailer with just a quick reach for the brake controller. I would highly recommend this product.

by:

Brakes worked great and ready to assembly. A faint odor for couple of hundred miles breaking in. Always worked well and stopped confidently even on the steepest of descents. 20% down grade going into Lake Tahoe for example. Highly recommend.

by:

delivered on time product, of good quality very helpful c/s .Will shop here again

This brake assembly replaced my original electric brake on 2004 Fleetwood/Coleman Sedona. You need to order four nuts for the brake mounting bolts on each assembly. etrailer's service/delivery was extremely fast with the free shipping on orders over $150. I also bought the LH assembly and matching hubs for the dexter ez axle. I would definitely buy from etrailer again.

by:

I purchached these brakes to convert from hydraulic surge brakes on my 1973 pop-up camper. It was a simple, bolt on conversion that took only a few hours to complete; including wiring. One week later, they performed flawlessly on the 400 mile trip to hunting camp. Thanks e-trailer for a great product and service.

by:

These brakes are well built, but unfortunately I had to return them before trying them out. There was a large gap between the brake and the drum. The etrailer tech suggested using washers/spacers to move the brake further into the drum, but the mounting bolts on the brake were not long enough to accommodate this situation. I had to find an alternative brake with a longer mounting bolt. Otherwise, seems like a good product.

by:

The items went onto my Aspen Classic trailer fairly easy. The only glitch was that I received axel caps that were too large. Once I notified the company, I received the correct caps rather quickly and finished up the install.

by:

Ordered my parts on Tuesday... showed up on Thursday! Awesome delivery time. Read the reviews for the 7" brakes I needed to replace on my popup camper, and several folks said to make sure to order the bolts, nuts and washers - since the etrailer replacements didn't come with them. The 7" brakes DO infact come with the pressed-in bolt studs already in place, the only thing extra you'll need to get would be the nuts and lock washers if you don't already have them. Installation is as simple as bolting them on and crimp connecting two wires. I'll make final adjustments to the brake controller once everything is back in place.

by:

The part was exactly what I needed. Delivery was very quick, 2 work days. The price for the entire brake assembly was less than an auto parts store quoted Me for one piece of the assembly. Yes it was less expensive to buy the assembly, than to buy just the magnet. The sales clerk for the assembly was very helpful and sincere. The clerk told Me after I had placed the order that I would receive parts at the good price, delivered, with no extra freight charge. I was very pleased when I received the parts and they fit very well. I will be contacting them again. I have owned and operated my repair shop for over 40 years. It is so nice to talk with a most Pleasant order clerk and receive exactly what I needed. The clerk was patient and very helpful. Thanks for the Good Service !

by:

The 23-47 brakes are an excellent replacement on my 1997 Coleman Fleetwood Bayports popup camper that I am close to finishing a restoration process on. They fit perfectly! Very happy to purchase an excellent product from the fastest shipper I have ever come across. I am blown away by the professionalism with this company!
Thanks

by:

My break shoes were shot this year (fell on the ground when I pulled the drums off) for almost the same price as my local dealer wanted for just shoes I got the entire assembly with magnetic puck and shoes!!!!!!! Thanks so much Etrailer!!!!!!

by:

20 Floe snowmobile trailer, Dexter axles, the replacements fit perfectly.
Installed and running in one night after work.

by:

Just what the doctor ordered. Items are easy to find on the website. Prices are decent. What makes etrailer stand out are their tutorials on the products as well as how to use them and excellent installation videos and tips. All this and a low price guarantee! You can't go wrong.

Electric Brake kit for trailer this time.
The parts are very acceptable and the service is supreme.
Couldn't get any better service anywhere. I've bought a lot of items from etrailer for a couple years now. I have had great experiences with each and every order.

by:

Exactly the right parts at a good price with outstanding customer support 10 out of 10 would purchase again and exclusively from this retailer.

by:

I ordered a set of trailer brakes for my camper and they arrived at my home in just four days. The order was filled correctly and promptly. Thank you very much. You know how to do business.

by:

I had a mishap on my camper and burned up a set of brakes, and had another camping trip to get ready for. So I ordered a set of these. They showed up on time, were easy to install, and saved the day.

by:

Fast shipping and this was an exact replcement for what was instaled on my trailer. Remember to order the nuts for the 4 studs. The old one do braked off during removal.

  • Picking Out Replacement Hub/Drums and Brake Assemblies for 2005 Haulmark Low Hauler Trailer
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. This is so you get a hub that is compatible with your wheels. I attached an FAQ article on determining bolt pattern for you to check out. Next thing you will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub...

As long as the axles on your trailer have a 4-bolt mounting flange pattern for the brakes, the Dexter 7 Inch Electric Brake Assembly # 23-47 for the Left Hand and # 23-48 for the Right Hand will work great as replacements for your surge brakes. These are 7 inch diameter drums with a width of 1-1/4 inches. Along with the assemblies themselves, you will need to also install a trailer brake controller in your tow vehicle if you do not already have one. I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy...

  • Electric Trailer Brakes for a Floe Snowmobile Trailer with 2,200 Pound Axles
The axle you have that can take brakes probably has a 4-bolt mounting pattern for the brakes. You could use Dexter brakes # 23-48 for the right and # 23-47 for the left. If the mounting flange doesn't take a 4-bolt assembly let me know. In addition to the brakes themselves you will also need wiring, maybe a different trailer connector depending on what the trailer has now (if the trailer has a 7-Way then you would not need to change connectors), and the vehicle will need to have a brake...

  • Adding Electric Drum Brakes to a Scamp Camper Trailer
Setting up a trailer with electric drum brakes is going to be the easier and most cost effective way of adding brakes to your Scamp trailer. Since the trailer already has the mounting flanges that will limit the amount of parts and work that will need to be done. Starting with the hub and drum assemblies since your bearings are both L44649 and you have an EZ Lube style axle you would need # 8-257-5UC3-EZ with the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. There are several things that might be going on, but to begin with I'll concentrate on the two most likely culprits. The arm that the brake magnet is mounted on should be on the side of the brake assembly that's closest to the front of the trailer. Next, you'll want to ensure that the brake assembly has been properly adjusted. You can access the adjuster through the backing plate. Tighten the adjuster...

  • Parts Needed to Add Trailer Brakes to a Trailer with Dexter 2,200 lb Axles
Adding brakes to a Dexter 2,200 lb axle is pretty simple. Basically you start by picking out the correct hub/drums and the picking out the rest of the parts to match. The correct hub/drums are the part # 8-257-5UC3 which match your bolt pattern as well. For brake assemblies you'd then want the part # 23-48 for the right hand side and part # 23-47 for the left hand side.
