Recommended Parts For Changing Surge Coupler To Electric Over Hydraulic Disc

I am wanting to order the parts but I am still confused and need help. My trailer is a 2013 Continental A2244B with a Titan surge actuator and Tie Down disc brakes on both axles. My 2014 Silverado has a new Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller. When I order this what will I need to go with it? I will be removing the Titan surge actuator an installing a straight tongue. I would like info for changing the wire plug on my trailer to the round style, break away switch and batteries, mounting plates and anything else I may need. I will be changing my brake calipers in the future but would like to use them until they need to be changed. I will be using Kodiak parts. I know have Sup r lube hubs and the rotor and hub are one piece. Thank you very much

When changing your trailer over you will need to do the complete change at one time since some of the parts are made for specific type brakes.

I have attached a drawing that shows how the Titan BrakeRite EHB Electric-Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes, part # T4813100 is attached. The # T4813100, has 5 wires that are blue, black, white, brown and purple. You will want to splice the blue wire from the adapter to the blue wire from the actuator. This allows the adapter to intercept the signal from the brake controller through the electric brake circuit. Finally the white wire from the adapter will splice into the white wire from the brake actuator for the ground connection.

The newest version of the # T4813100 is "Plug and Play" and connects straight into a 7-way. It is the Titan BrakeRite I Plug and Play Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4813102.

You have a couple of options with the coupler. You can replace it with a new coupler or I have seen people drill a hole through the coupler and insert a bolt so that the couple no longer operates as a surge coupler. An option is to get a new coupler and install a separate breakaway kit. I have attached a link to the trailer couplers with the breakaway kit included you can take a look at.

If you prefer installing a separate breakaway kit I recommend a kit like the Tekonsha Push To Test Breakaway Kit, part # 50-85-313. This kit comes with the battery and charger included and will work on trailers with up to 3 axles. We also offer a post mounting bracket kit, part # 50-85-115 for the breakaway kit. This bracket will fit frames up to 2-3/4 inches wide.

For the disc brake kit on your trailer we do have kits available if your trailer has 3,500 pound axles and a gross trailer weight rating of 6,000 pounds or less. I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit , part # K2HR35D. This kit contains 2 full brake assemblies. The bearings and seals are sold separately. For this brake system the bearings needed are part # L68149 for the inner bearings, part # L44649 for the outer bearings. The inner seal needed is part # RG06-050. The races are included with the brake kit.

For your wiring I recommend the Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, part # H20042. This is molded 7-way connector with a 3 ft lead. The wires would be run as follows:

The White Wire is Ground and connects to White Wire on trailer. Red Wire is for Left Turn and Brake and connects to Yellow Wire on trailer. The Brown Wire is for Right Turn and Brake and connects to the Green Wire on trailer. Green Wire is for Tail Lights and connects to the Brown Wire on the trailer. The Blue Wire is for Brake Power and connects to the Blue Wire on the trailer, and the Black Wire is for 12 volt (hot lead) and connects to the Black Wire on the trailer. The Yellow Wire is an Aux and not used.

I recommend using a junction box like part # 38656 to make these connections. You can use ring terminals like part # DW05702-1 and you can use butt connectors like part # DW05714 for 14 to 16 gauge wire. For 10 to 12 gauge wire you can use butt connectors part # 05732-2.
