Voyager Brake Controller Green Light Turns Off When Vehicles Parking /Headlights are Turned On

Question:

I have just installed a Tekonsha Voyager BC on a 1998 GMC C6500 truck. Everything works fine until I turn on the trucks parking and/or headlights. Then the controllers green light goes off, but I still have truck & trailer lights. I was thinking that I have a possible ground issue or the trailer wire for lights is bleeding into my trailer ground somewhere and effecting the unit. Thanks for your help.

Make sure that the brake light switch you use only has power running to it when the brake pedal is pressed. When you find that wire, that is the one you need. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993.

If that does not solve the problem, you will need to keep checking the wiring. Many problems like this could also be the result of a faulty ground. When checking wiring, I would check the grounds first, then the 12-volt hot wires, and then check and see if there are any breaks or loose connections in any of the other wires. If everything seems in order, you might also check to see if you have a blown fuse which is a possibility, especially if something was not wired properly or somehow got damaged. If you have a breakaway switch on the trailer you will need to check that wiring as well.

I have included some links below that give helpful information on brake controller wiring. In the last video, look at the 6 minute, 20 second mark to see the circuit tester being used to find the correct brake pedal wire.
