Recommended Trailer Wire Harness For 2013 Jeep Compass With Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2013 jeep compass latitude eith the freedom drive 2 and trailer tow package. With the tow package there is supposed to be a wiring harness included. Do you know where it is, ie: under the bumper etc? I just dont want to buy one if its already wired in. Thanks!

A tow package can have different meanings for different manufacturers. Some manufacturers include the trailer connectors with their tow packages and some make other changes to the vehicle like the suspension or transmission. You can check with your dealership to see if a wire harness was installed on your 2013 Jeep Compass. If they installed a trailer wire harness, it may be zip-tied under the rear of your Jeep near the back bumper.

If you find that you do not have the 4-way connector on your Compass, I recommend the Tow-Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118539. This allows you to quickly install a harness by using the connection points behind the vehicle tail lights. You then run a hot lead to the Jeep battery, and that's it. I have attached an installation video for this harness on a Jeep Compass you can check out.

If you plan to tow a trailer that has brakes, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. I have attached some helpful articles that explain brake controllers and their installation.

If you plan on installing a brake controller, and you need the 7-way connector at the rear of your Compass, I recommend part # ETBC7. This attached to the existing 4-way harness on the vehicle and with some additional wiring gives you a 7-way connector and a 4-way connector.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the connection and helps prevent corrosion.
