Replacement Hub Recommendation for a Calkins Boat Trailer
Question:
I have a Calkins boat trailer, used to carry a small dinghy sailboat. Id like to replace the hubs because they are corroded from being immersed in salt water. Im having difficulty determining what parts to order. Heres what I do know: - The wheels are 5 lug on 4.5 in bolt circle, carrying 5.30 - 12 tires. - The axle diameter is 2 in. Is that sufficient information to order replacement hubs, or should I wait until I have one hub torn down to get more information? I looked for a VIN plate but could not located one. Ive added one pic of my boat sitting on trailer. Thanks for your help.

The bolt pattern is helpful information for picking out the correct replacement hub, but you need more info.
You will want to remove your current hub to get the bearing numbers off of the bearings in your hub. With that info I can help you pick out the correct hubs.
If you cannot see the part numbers on the bearings or grease seal, then you can take a few measurements on your spindles. I recommend using a precise measuring tool such as a dial caliper because these measurements will need to be precise. I have attached a photo that shows where the part numbers of the bearings and seals will be located and where to measure on your spindle if needed.
