Best 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2015 Ford F-350 with Factory 5th Wheel Prep Package

Question:

I am considering buying a new 2015 F350 with factory installed below bed rails. My 5th wheel is a 2014 Keystone Alpine and the GTW is 15,500 lbs. 12224 lbs. shipping weight plus 3276 lbs. maximum additional load. Although I cant imagine adding 3276 lbs. to the shipping weight, my questions is should I go for the 16,000 lb. hitch or must I jump to the 20,000 lb.? Also, with this rig would it be wise to go for the long bed or can stick with the preferred short bed with a slider hitch? Thank you.

I will start out by saying that the best trucks for towing 5th wheel trailers are 1-ton long beds. As far as capacity you might want to upgrade to a different trailer in the future so if you have a hitch with a high enough capacity now then you wouldn't have to worry about that later.

You could go with the 20k, # RP30921. Or the slightly less expensive 20k model such as # C16530-16017 or the more expensive model # BWRVK3300. All of these hitches are fixed, not sliders, for long bed trucks with the Ford factory prep package.

If you go with a short bed then I recommend 18k slider # RP30144 so you will not have to mess with any adapters like you would with using other slider hitches in the Ford OEM prep package.
