Recommendation to Transport Motorcycle with 2001 BMW 525i Sport Wagon
Question:
Greetings etrailer folks - Question: I see that the tongue weight specs for my car in subject line is listed at 200lbs. I was hoping to use it for my motorcycle which weighs 255lbs. with a motorcycle carrier which goes on receiver. Is there any way to make a solution for my scenario? Reinforcement, larger class hitch?? Many thanks!

The only solution that could work for your 2001 BMW 525i would be to install the Curt Hitch part # C11179 that you referenced and tow a small trailer.
Class I hitches the one for your vehicle not only have too low of tongue weight ratings for carrying a motorcycle carrier and motorcycle, they also do not make any carriers compatible with those hitches.
If you plan on doing some towing, you will need a ball, drawbar and a pin and clip. For a drawbar use # C45510. For a ball use # C40001 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # C40018 (2 inch diameter) and for the pin and clip, use # F-4. For trailer wiring, Curt recommends harness # C59496.
