Recommended Hitch And Combination Transmission/Oil Cooler For 2009 Chevrolet Impala
Question:
Hi there, Ive got a 2009 Chevrolet Impala LT with the 3.5L V6 Flex Fuel engine. Im planning on getting a receiver hitch kit from yall, but Im wondering if you could also provide recommendations for compatible engine oil and transmission fluid cooler kits for my application. As far as I know this vehicle does already have at least a stock transmission fluid cooler but I imagine its ultimately inadequate for towing. Im not sure if you have any kits for my application, and Im not sure if the process would be to replace the existing cooler or add a secondary. My cars only got a 1000lb tow capacity but I figure if Im going to tow I might as well do it right. Thanks for your help.

For your 2008 Chevrolet Impala, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 36407. This is a Class ll hitch and has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.
The drawbar I recommend for this hitch is part # 36061. This features a 3-1/8 inch rise, and uses a hitch ball with a 3/4 inch diameter shank. This includes the pin and clip.
For a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19257, and for a 2 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 19258.
Transmission and oil coolers are not vehicle specific. It is usually best to use the largest cooler that will fit your vehicle. I have attached a link to our product page for the combo coolers we offer. I have also attached a drawing that shows the best places to mount a cooler provided there is enough room. For maximum efficiency, you will want to mount the cooler between your vehicle's grille and the AC condenser core.
I recommend using a combination cooler like the Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler, part # D15902. This cooler measures 17 inches wide x 12-1/2 inches tall x 3/4 inch deep.
I have also attached links to a couple of helpful articles about transmission coolers you can check out.
If you do not have a trailer connector on the rear of your Impala, I recommend part # 118417. This harness connects quickly and easily by simply plugging into the wiring behind the passenger side tail light, and requires no cutting or splicing of the wires. I have included a link to an installation video for this wire harness on an Impala you may want to take a look at.
