The Best Recommended Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller for a 2013 Honda CR-V

Question:

I see the hitch and wiring package for my vehicle but nothing about brakes. Is there something that needs to be wired for the brakes?

If you will be towing any trailers that have electric brakes then you will need to add a 7-Way trailer connector and a brake controller in order to activate the brakes.

Starting with a trailer hitch we have Class I, II, and III hitches available for your 2013 Honda CR-V. The most popular option is the Curt Class III hitch # C13119. But, even though this hitch is rated for 350 pounds tongue weight and 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight, you will need to consult the vehicle owners manual for its capacities.

We have found in the past that the CR-V has a tongue weight capacity of 150 pounds and gross trailer weight of 1,500 pounds. Since this is lower than any of the available hitches you will need to go by the lower rating.

In addition to the hitch you will also need a ball mount, # 2753, pin and clip # PC3, and a properly sized ball. If the trailer coupler needs a 2 inch ball use # 63845. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19260. And for a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 63847.

To add the wiring and brake controller you will start by installing wiring harness # 118561. Then you will need to install installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation.

For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885. This is our best selling controller because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. I have included some helpful links to the right for you.
