6-1/2 inch Oval LED Clearance Light Recommendation that Surface Mounts
Question:
I need to install lighting at the rear and sides of my 2000 Volvo VNL770 heavy duty truck, as shown in the attached photos. The custom flat bed is wood, painted black, with a 2x10 mounted vertically all around the outside as a sort of banding. This 2x10 is what I need to attach the lights to. I need to install five clearance/marker lights along the back near the top edge three in the center and one at each outside corner. Then I need to install stop/turn/tail lights at the extreme right and left sides on the rear face, just below the markers. On the right and left sides I need to place a marker light near the top rear corner, and also wish to place markers near the front of the bed at each side, though its not technically required due to my overall length. Finally, I need to mount a pair of backup lights at the rear, and possibly relocate the license plate and add lighting for it, to the lower edge at the center of the rear board of the bed. Currently the lighting, as shown, is the original tractor lighting, and is not legal as this is now registered as a private truck in SD. I want to use LED lighting, sealed units, exclusively. My question is what is the height, width, and depth of a recess I would need to rout into the wood to clear the rear portion of the STL111RCFB, in order to surface mount its flange? I think I would first bore a 1 1/2inch to 2inch diameter through-hole to clear the connection that protrudes at the rear of the fixture, and feed the wires through from the opposite side of the wood plank. Finally, do you sell a different line of LED lights that are true surface-mount, meaning they wouldnt require routing a clearance pocket into the wood? It would be far simpler if I only needed to bore a hole for the wires for each light. Regards,

My recommendation for your application is the Sealed, 6-1/2" Oval LED part # STL78RB. I attached a review video for you to check out as well. Then you can use the Snap-on Reflector Ring for STL78RB Series LED Lights - Red # A78RXB.
This will allow you to use them as clearance lights for the center wiring only that portion and then for stop and turn lights on the sides wiring all the functions of the light.
