does the air only flow out when the switch turn on? can the air flow inward?

I have played with the Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent # VP-543SP before and found that if you reverse the wires you can make it pull air in.

If you wire it up like normal, black to power/white to ground, it works as an exhaust fan. If you flip the wiring, white to power/black to ground, it pulls air in.

If you were to swap the positive and negative wires on the motor for vent fan #VP-543SP the motor would run in reverse. I have tested this before. Of course it is not tested in this configuration so proceed at your discretion.

The Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent part #VP-543SP that you referenced is reversible. I went and pulled one from our warehouse and when you switch the ground and power wires the direction of the fan motor changes so it should work well for you.
