Dexter Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Does Not Work w/2014 Chevy Silverado Factory Brake Control
Question:
I Purchased a complete set up for you guys to convert my trailer over to EOH brakes, I did the entire conversion and it works great on both of my 2011 F350 but I have a 2014 chevy 2500hd that it will not work on with the factory brake controller, if I install a aftermarket controller the chevy already has the wiring under the dash but you guys specify that I have to run a new blue wire for the brakes to the rear plug, why is that so when the blue wire is already present under the dash? Also is there a simpler solution rather then have to install another entire controller? If I do install a after market controller how do I stop the factory controller from both sending power when operating a regular electric trailer

As you have found out the factory brake controller on your 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500 is not compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems. You can install a P2 # 90885 which is compatible but the reason you need to run a new blue wire is to avoid getting an error code dash light from the factory controller.
Some actuators have an adapter that you could add so that the factory controller will work with actuator. The one that you have though, # K71-651, does not have an adapter option. So in order for the system to work you would need an aftermarket controller compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes.
I have included a link to a help article that explains the connections that will need to be made for the new controller. You will also need about 20 feet of wire # 12-1-1 (sold in increments of one foot so for 20 feet enter 20 in the quantity box). And you may also need an M6 nut, # 185916 and an M8 nut # 185917 for the connections under the hood.
