Using Erickson # EM07605 Load Extender to Carry Canoe on 2013 Chevy Silverado

Question:

We have a 2013 silverado 1500, extended cab, 6.5 ft. bed. Want to haul 14 foot ABS canoe. Thinking about the Erickson Big Bed Junior Load Extender - em07605, and the Darby Industries 968 Black Roof Turbo Rack. Will my roof support the weight? Would appreciate any comments, suggestions. Thanx!

TheErickson # EM07605 Big Bed Junior Load Extender for Truck Bed or Roof and the # DTA968 Turbo-Rack would be a good choice for you for transporting your canoe. Canoes typically weigh less than 100 lbs, and the roof portion of the truck would only be bearing 1/2 the weight of the canoe. Your roof should handle it with no problem whatsoever. I'd also recommend a canoe carrier kit, like part # MPG156. The kit contains foam blocks that will fit around the crossbars to protect the canoe from damage. It also includes bow and stern tie downs, as you'll want to secure the canoe at both the front and rear, as well as to the crossbars.
