Will Battery Isolation Solenoid Overdraw the Cruise Control Fuse on a 2010 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I am planning on doing a fuse tap into Fuse 43 Miscellaneous Ignition, Cruise Control which is situated in the Under the Hood Fuse Block of my 2010 Chev Silverado 5.3 l engine. This is to run power to a Battery Isolation Solenoid PK5231201. There will be 3 ft of wire running to the solenoid. How much current draw does this solenoid take and what size of fuse and gauge of wire minimum should I use? The existing fuse for the circuit is 10 amps. Could this fuse tap overload the circuit that runs my cruise control?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The battery isolation solenoid # PK5231201 as a whole is rated for 80 amps. But the connection to the 12 volt ignition circuit is just acting as a switch. The power passing through the solenoid would be higher than 10 amps but that power is not drawing on the ignition circuit. You can use 10 gauge wire, # 10-1-1, sold in increments of 1 foot for the ignition switch connection. The same wire can be used for the side posts as well.
