Troubleshooting Energizer III Brake Controller with no Power Output on 2009 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
I purchased and installed the Energizer III on my 1500 Silverado that came factory equipped with the Tow package. I ran a hot wire with the circuit beaker link from the battery hooked the white ground wire to the white in the harness.and the blue to the blue in the harness. I could not get continuity in the harness brake light wire, so I left it off. the system works fine when manually operating the slide for the tailer brakes. I can not tell that the trailer breaks are actuating when I simply step on the pedal. Does the signal for the trailer brakes come from the stop light lead, These lights work fine on the trailer both before the installation of the brake controller and after. If I hook up that brake light wire what will be different? Question is which wire do I splice into in the harness package.

Yes, the signal for the trailer brakes comes from the stop light lead. The red wire on the controller is meant to be connected to the stop light circuit which is the light blue or orange wire on GM vehicles with the factory tow package. This wire will then send a signal to the brake controller when the brake pedal is pressed which in turn sends power to the trailer.
I would first start off by testing the light blue stop light wire on your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. You will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, making sure that the tester has a good ground. The light blue stop light wire should have power when the brake pedal is pressed. If the light blue wire shows power, you will want to connect it to the red wire on the brake controller. If the light blue wire does not show power, you would have to try and locate another dedicated brake light circuit.
The light blue wire on the truck and the red wire on the controller must be connected together in order for the brakes on the trailer to function when the brake pedal in the Silverado is pressed.
