Can Timbren Axle-Less Suspension be Used for a Boat Trailer/Marine Applications
Question:
I have an older 80 era sailboat trailer that is without brakes. Due to the age of the trailer, I believe that I would be better off to replace the axle instead of just having brake flanges welded on to the existing unit. Do you recommend the axle-less system for marine use? The boat weighs 2250 lbs and the trailer is estimated to be about 750 lbs. Currently there is 1 3500 axle. Ground clearance is not an issue, although lowering the load would reduce the CG when towing. Normally the trailer only gets submerged into fresh water, but salt water is not ruled out. Thanks for any help you can offer.

You can use Timbren Axle-Less suspension for marine applications. But you would need 3500 pound kit # ASR3500S05. If attaching brakes you would need hydraulic brakes and not electric brakes. For a hub and drum assembly you could use # 8-247-50UC3-EZ which is a galvanized model for corrosion resistance. It has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern
For compatible brake assemblies use # 23-312 for the left and # 23-313 for the right.
Then you would need a brake actuating coupler, see link to the right for options rated up to 6,000 pounds (there are no 3500 pound options). And for a brake line kit you can use # 9504.
