Moving Reese Fixed 5th Wheel Hitch Head # RP30047 to a Sliding Base in 2014 Ram 3500 Short Box
Question:
I have an Reese RP30047 5th wheel hitch, and recently purchased a 2014 Dodge 3500, short box. I want to remove the top hitch portion and install it onto uprights arm with a slider assembly. Is this possible? Thanks.

Reese offers a square tube 5th wheel slider base # RP30048 that will allow you to move your existing Reese # RP30047 head assembly to your new truck. If your truck has the factory 5th wheel rail kit installed you'll also need to use adapter # RP30154 to provide a mounting point for the slider base. This adapter fits into the factory pucks to provide a standard above-bed rail for the slider. If you do not have the factory rail kit you will instead use Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # RP56010-53 which includes custom under-bed brackets and industry-standard base rails.
I have linked a helpful article on 5th wheel installation tips.
Another option for your short-bed truck is to install a replacement 5th wheel pin box called a Sidewinder. Sidewinders extend your pivot distance by 22-inches and are to be used with a standard fixed 5th wheel hitch such as your # RP30047. You can use the table in the linked article to check whether your existing pin box number has a Sidewinder replacement available.
