4-Way to 7-Way Adapter For a 2010 Ford Escape
Question:
I have a 4 flat wiring harness on my 2010 ford escape. I want to hook that up to a 7 round rv type of connector. I went to Mills Farm fleet and they had a hundred adapters but not one like I needed. I asked the counter guy and he said there is no such animal. He stated that you can only go from 4 flat to 4 flat, but you could go from a vehicle with a 7 round rv connection to a 4 flat trailer, just not vice versa. can you validate this? I really dont want to get a whole new kit for the escape, but need the lights to work on my trailer with the 7 round rv connector.

We have exactly what you need. Check out part # 37185. This is a 4-way to 7- and 4-way adapter. You simply plug your existing 4-flat connector into the 4-flat connector on this adapter, mount the 7-way and 4-way socket and ground the white wire to the vehicle frame. The additional wires are for 12 volt power (black), electric brakes (blue), reverse lights (purple). If you do not need those functions at this time, then you can just tape those wires out of the way.
On the Ford Escape, we found it was best to mount the 7- and 4-way adapter to the trailer hitch using a long no-drill bracket part # C57202. Check out the installation video I attached on a 2011 Ford Escape. This video shows the entire installation for the kit, # ETBC7, including the 12 volt power wire, electric brake wire and a brake controller, but you do not need to connect the additional wires if you do not need them.
