Brake Controller for a 2013 BMW X3 Towing a 2014 R-Pod Trailer
Question:
I have a 2013 BMW X3 335i. I am towing a 2014 178 R Pod. Trailer weight is apx 2600# empty. BMW has factory tow package rated at 3500#. BMW is telling me I dont need a brake controller. The R pod dealer couldnt figure out how to install the Prodigy P2 on the vehicle. My question is how can I install the P2 on the tv? Do I need a different controller? Would it be easier to simply get an rf controller? I am new to this towing thing. Thanks so much for your time.

The problem the dealer likely had was finding the right wire, or any wire, for the input to a brake controller. It is difficult to install a traditional brake controller on a 2013 BMW X3, so much so that the best option is to use the Prodigy RF, # TK94FR.
For the RF to work you need to have a functioning 7-Way trailer connector on your X3. You will need to obtain this from your BMW dealer if the X3 does not already have a functioning 7-Way.
If the trailer has LED lights you will also need a special adapter, # 20142, to bypass the bulb out sensors on the X3.
