Part Recommendations to Install a Brake Controller in a 2012 Kia Sorento with 4-Way

Question:

I have a 2012 kia sorento v6 and I have a 4 flat connector installed now. I also have the Hopkins 4 flat to 7 pole converter waiting to be installed and I need to know what else I am going to need to complete this project. I assume the wiring kit as well as a trailer brake control but which one or if for certain that is all I need is what Im not sure of. Please help also and videos you might have would be great!

Since you have the Hopkins 4 way to 7 Way adapter part # 37185 you will only need a few more components to complete a brake controller install on your 2012 Kia Sorento that has a 4-way installed currently.

First let's start with a brake controller. I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

Next, to wire up the brake controller you will want to run a section of 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to the positive side of your battery through a 30 amp breaker part # 38630. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not applied. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to.

Finally you will need to run a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) from the brake output circuit of the controller to the brake output circuit of the # 37185 (blue wire). The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot so you will need to order a quantity of the amount of feet you will need.

I attached an FAQ on installing brake controllers for you to check out.
