Relocating License Plate and Bracket on a Utility Trailer

Question:

I have a 2000# rated 5 x 10 angle iron utility trailer and I drag my license plate constantly on things. Im looking for an alternative mounting bracket to raise it from below the tail light to some other position. My bracket gets bent almost every time I haul something. My trailer tows level and has 15inch wheels. I have seen people mount their plates flat on the fender but it looks bad plus it needs to be illuminated. I think that mine has additional angle iron uprights that could make adding an upper bracket easier. Any suggestions?

I recommend using something like and L-bracket, such as # CE26098G, that you can attach to the top rail near the end of the trailer. Then you can attach a bracket such as # LPL55CB (may have to do some drilling/modify the L-bracket). Then you can ground the license plate bracket to the nearby frame of the trailer and the power wire to the running light circuit.

The wiring can be run along the frame to the nearest tail light for the power wire. You can use wire ties or even metal loom claps such as # A0250 to secure the wiring from the license plate bracket to the running light wire on the tail light.
