Recommended 7-Wire For Rewiring Lights On Semi Truck
Question:
My question disapeared after i added a pict so I am re-typing it again. I am wondering how many wires and of what gauge I pat in 1/2 wire loom. I am thinking about buying 100 feet of it because I am working on the trailer lights for the attached picts of a semi truck. I want to run 7 wires plus a back up camera wire for future purposes. Also thinking about replacing with LED lights instead of bulbs. I wonder what parts I would need to complete that whole project

The smallest gauge wire for running any lights is 16 gauge, like part # 16-1-1. This wire measures .089 inches so using a 1/2 inch loom like part # 459075 would be able to handle several strands of 16 gauge wire. This could run into quite a cumbersome task but we may have just the thing you are looking for. I recommend using the Deka Jacketed 7-Wire, part # DW04914-1. This jacketed wire has (6) 12 gauge multicolored wires and (1) 10 gauge white wire enclosed in a black vinyl jacket to protect the wiring. You can take your measurements and order this by the foot. When running wiring a long distance it is best to use heavier gauge wire. Depending on the amount of lights attached to the wire, if you use wire that is not heavy enough may result in the lights not working.
I recommend using the Deka 12 Gauge Black Primary Wire, part # 12-1-1 when you run the splices for the lights on your truck. The butt connectors I recommend for either 12 gauge or 10 gauge wire are part # 05732-2.
The wiring for a future backup camera may pose different issues. If you are running a wire used to supply power there may not be a problem. If the wire you are want
When you decide to replace your lights you can take the lens covers off your current lights and find the numbers that can many times be used for replacement lights. I have attached a couple of links to our product pages for LED lights you can check out. You can use the menu on the left of the screen to narrow your search to find the lights you are looking for. I have also attached a link to our product page for reflectors you may want to take a look at.
