Why must the ball mount, #C45014, be used only in the rise position and not in the drop position?

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said the Class II Drawbar, # C45014, has not been tested for use in the drop position. They only test it for the rise position. If you were to use this ball mount in the drop position and it fails, the warranty would be voided and you could be responsible for all damages.
If you need a Class II drawbar with a 5 inch drop, I recommend looking at the Draw-Tite Class II Drawbar, # 36078. Keep in mind, most Class I and Class II trailer hitches are only tested with one particular ball mount. If you can tell me the brand and part number of your trailer hitch, or the brand of the hitch and the year, make and model of your vehicle, I would be happy to look up the recommended ball mount.
