Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness And Brake Controller For A 2024 Telluride SX Prestige X-Line

Question:

I have a 2024 kia telluride prestige x-line model…had a hitch 2” installed but now need to do the wiring harness and brake controller if necessary… had it on my honda odyssey, but the kia telluride has a tow mode… to use/tow my pop up camper w/a round 7 pin adapter. what do I need? I can’t seem to figure it out on your site. Additionally, my 2024 was bought in 7/2023, so an earlier 2024 model that didn’t yet have an option to add the “tow package.” thanks

Hi Staci,

The tow mode just affects how the drivetrain operates and disables rear proximity sensors since you'll be pulling a trailer behind you. For the wiring you'll need the Tekonsha OEM Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter # TK74CR you were already looking at. This will have connectors to plug inline with your factory tail light wiring, wiring to run to the battery for power, and wiring to run up to a brake controller.

For the brake controller you'll want the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness # RED52VR. This brake controller requires the least amount of space in your dash and will keep your vehicle looking factory. This will come with a universal splice-in style wire harness which will need to run to power, ground, the cold side of the brake light switch, and to the brake controller output wire included with the # TK74CR. The cold side of the brake light switch can be found with a hook and probe tester # PTW2993 and will only have power when the brake pedal is being depressed. If you can't find it you can just install a stop light switch kit # RM-751000 to simulate this signal.
