Can Reducer Sleeve Be Used With Blue Ox SwayPro

Question:

I have a blue ox sway pro weight distributing system 10,000lb with a 1000 lb tongue weight It has a 2inch shank that I have been using for pulling my camper . I just bought a new 2024 Ram 2500 it has a class 5 hitch on it with a 2 1/2 in reciever on it. I went to buy a sleeve to reduce the 2 1/2inch reciver to a 2inch reciever. it was a Curt brand. On the reducer sleeve it was stamped maximum trailer weight 3333 LB Maximum tongue weight 333 lb . I pull a camper that is 7300lb with a tongue weight of around 860 lb My question is do i need to buy a new 2 1/2 inch shank for my blue ox weight distributing hitch to pull my camper? Is there any way I can get a reducing sleeve That is rate the same as my class 5 reciever? I dont feel comfortable using a reducer sleeve that is stamped with a rating of 3333 lb maximum trailer weight with a class 5 reciever

You definitely don't want to use the Curt since your 2023 Jayco Jay Flight 280RKS weighs 6,495 lbs with nothing in it. With that kind of rating on it I'm guessing you got a reducer and extension. Your typical reducer sleeve does not have a weight rating on it since it doesn't reduce hitch capacity.

For example, our note on the Curt # C45405 states that the weight capacity is limited to the rated capacity of your hitch receiver. The same is true for the etrailer # e26YR. If you would rather stick with the Blue Ox brand the # BX88187 will also do the job. All of these will be compatible with your SwayPro.

Thanks Robin I will have to decide which one that you recommended to use. The Curt reducer I looked at was a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" to 2" x 2" by 5"long but it did have a metal ring welded around opening on the one end so It would not side all the way in. Otherwise it looked just like the other ones you gave me the part numbers for. it was not a reducer and extension

@Gary I would pick up the etrailer one personally since it has the lowest cost right now. There isn't much to these so the design and manufacturer aren't really important. I dropped the Curt in as an example since you already had a Curt branded one. They will all do the same thing.
