Do Any Other Parts Of An AC System Get Carried Over When Replacing The Rooftop Condenser Unit

Question:

When you say this is plug and play for replacement of an old Carrier unit, are there any parts from the old carrier unit that need to be swapped over to the new Advent AC? Are the control board, air distribution box/cover the same or do we swap out from the old Carrier unit?

Hi Ken,

The rooftop unit is just a condenser, which is kind of the same setup as a residential system. It just turns on when the controller tells it to which is why it's the only part you can really swap out without having to completely replace the whole system. These units are typically held in place with four long bolts that run through the air distribution box to thread into the bottom of the condenser unit to clamp it to the roof. The connection between the condenser and controller is just a wire harness typically with a 6-pin or 9-pin connector. The # ACCAR150 comes with an adapter because Carrier didn't follow the rest of the industry and used a proprietary connector. Switching units is simply swapping over the four bolts and plugging in the new wire harness.
