Disc Brake Kit And Actuator For A Grand Design 311BHS

Question:

Looking for your recommendations for a disc brake kit and actuator, 2-axle trailer, Dexter 6K axles, Grand Design 311BHS. Have to measure the length to the 1st axle still. Dont need stainless, but good quality components. Thanks!

Hello Dave. I recommend the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE28YR. This uses a corrosion-resistant Maxx coat finish, which is similar to Dacromet or Zinc only better. So not as expensive as stainless, but still good rust resistance. These hubs have a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and are 6K rated. This can be used with the brake line kit # 20TA-BLKIT which comes with an 20' long main line. Please do confirm that this line will be appropriately sized for your trailer. We do offer longer lines if needed.

As far as the actuator I recommend the Hydrastar EOH Actuators. You can get just the actuator by itself with part # HBA16. If you are in need of a full conversion kit, I suggest part # HS381-9067 since this will come with all of the components needed to convert from electric drum to EOH Disc brakes.

Keep in mind that you will need to have an electric brake controller like the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 in your truck if you don't have one already.

I have also provided a link below that will show you out complete guide to adding EOH brakes to a trailer. Feel free to reach out if you have further questions.

Thanks Jesse, Regarding the actuator, what is there to recommend the Hydrastar vs. the Dexter vs. Brakerite? Is there any material advantage of one over the other? Thanks!

@Dave I prefer the Hydrastar actuator for a few reasons. It is time-tested and durable. It is quieter than the Dexter unit, which is definitely a factor since this is going in a 5th wheel that you will be living (and sleeping) in. We get better reviews on the Hydrastar units in comparison to the Dexter and the Brakerite. Hydrastar units are also made here in the USA. I generally do not recommend the Brakerite to folks who are in need of an EOH actuator. Easier installation is really the only benefit the Brakerite offers over other units. They are made of plastic, and they only operate at 1,500 PSI opposed to 1,600 on other units, so it is hard to justify paying more money for it.
