Brake Controller Installation in 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty Cab and Chassis Class C Motor Home

Question:

This vehicle is a Class C motorhome. It was equipped with a trailer hitch and 7 way plug. I have an outlet plug on the bottom of the dash between my legs when in the drivers seat. Is this the brake controller outlet, and if so what do I need to connect the controller to the truck? What controller do you recomend for towing a vehicle on a two wheel dolley? Thanks for your help.

First I suggest you verify that the vehicle to be towed can be safely towed on a dolly with its rear wheels down. Many vehicles can be, but this should first be checked in your owner's manual or with a dealership to avoid the potential for damage to the towed vehicle.

The electric brakes on a tow dolly can be activated by a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885, that can be installed with a quick-connect harness, part # 3034-P, to the port under your dash. The presence of the port will save you the process of hard-wiring the brake controller.

The P2 is among the easiest to use and reliable units we offer and it is highly rated by our customers who have purchased and use it. The P2 is an excellent choice for these reasons alone, but it also offer the flexibility to be used with either electric brakes or electric-over-hydraulic trailer brakes.

The flat connector on harness # 3034-P plugs in to the back of the P2 and the other connector matches up to the connection port under the dash. This port provides 12-volt power and braking signals to the controller
and also routes its output to your 7-way.

For reference I have linked an article that covers troubleshooting brake controller installations, just in case you run into any bumps along the way. I also included a video showing P2 installation in another 2008 Ford vehicle.
