Replacing/Upgrading Equalizer On A 2012 Heartland Greystone 27RK Fifth Wheel
Question:
Hello: I was interested in replacing the Equalizers on my 2012 Heartland Greystone 27RK Fifth Wheel camper - 33 inch Wheelbase I was going to go with the MORryde ALLTREK 4000 # MR89DR, but now I am not sure if that is correct option for me. The shackle-eye to shackle-eye dimension on my existing Equalizers is right around 5 inches. I believe the 4000 measurement is 6.5 inches - I assume that is too much? I was also considering these: Equa-Flex # LC279687 5.5in eye-to-eye Dexter E-Z Flex # K71-652-00 5.75in eye-to-eye Road Armor # LC696740 6.0in eye-to-eye MORryde CRE3000 # MR87ZR 6.5in eye-to-eye MORryde ALLTREK 4000 # MR89DR 6.5in eye-to-eye Given my 5 inch existing measurement - which option would be best for me? Thank You Chris H atteched are 2 photos of my existing Equalizer

Hello Chris, it sounds like you are definitely on the right track here. When replacing an equalizer, it is critical that the replacement equalizer is identical in size to the original equalizer. There is a small amount of tolerance there, like maybe 1/2" or less. I will also add that you really cannot select an equalizer off of only the wheelbase measurement. With the current equalizer being only 5" from hole-to-hole, the MORryde ALLTREK 4000 # MR89DR is going to be much too large to be a suitable replacement.
Considering all of the options you listed, the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687 will be your best bet with the 5-1/2" eye-to-eye measurement. We will also want to compare the height of the current equalizer to make sure it is a match (or at least very close to it). The Equa-Flex is 2-1/2" tall, and I have included the diagram below for your reference. We will want the current equalizer to be within about 1/2" of this height in order for it to work for your trailer. Based on your picture it looks like you should be good, but I am just eyeballing here so you will definitely want to measure and confirm this.
If your equalizer is sized differently, feel free to let me know the exact height and I am happy to let you know what your options are.
