Can 5.30-12 Tires Be Replaced With 4.80-12 Tires

Question:

I have a 14 foot galvanized trailer and I’m hauling a 12 foot tracker, tadpole aluminum boat. The tires and wheels that are on it are 5.30-12. They only have about a one to a one and a half inch clearance between the tire and fender. I was thinking of going to a 480-12 to provide better clearance and and lower the trailer Just a tad bit wanted an opinion if that would be OK to do??

That's totally fine, Rob. Since the tire you're wanting to use is smaller in diameter you'd have no issues fitting it into your existing wheel well.

Thank you for getting back with me, Bryce. In your own opinion, just to be clear, is the clearance of about an inch and a half between the top of the tire and the fender too small of a clearance and you would definitely recommend going with the 480-12 wheel and tire or a better fit. I just wanna make sure I have the proper clearance.

@RobW Personally I would because an inch and a half isn't a ton of wiggle room to play with.
