Using Molded Trailer Connector # H20042 Junction Box # 38656 and Bulk Wire to Rewire Utility Trailer
Question:
Hi, I would like to rewire my older utility trailer. It has brakes. What is the best way to purchase new wiring? I think I only see a 10foot 7 way trailer wiring kit on your website. The trailer is about 14foot long. Do you sell bulk wire that I would use to extend out to the brakes, directionals, brake lights and running lights? It also has backup lights. Thanks

To rewire your utility trailer, I'd start with a molded 7-way trailer connector, available in an 8 foot length, part # H20046, or a 3 foot length, part # H20042. The trailer connector will NOT wire color for color with the trailer wiring, so be sure to consult the wire color code chart on the product page for either length trailer connector.
Wire the connector into a junction box, part # 38656. I've provided a link to a video that shows how this is done. You can use 4-conductor wire, part # 16-4B-1 to wire each individual lighting circuit to the junction box, using brown for running lights, green for right turn/brake, yellow for left turn/brake and white for the reverse lights. Use a length of # 10-1-1 to run the brake output circuit from the junction box to the brake magnets.
I've also linked you to our trailer wiring help article, which contains more information and wiring diagrams you might find helpful.
