Will The Free Backing Brakes AKFBBRK-7 Be Compatible With My Current Hubs/Drums?
Question:
I have a really well built 12x5foot material dump trailer with 2-7K axles that I bought from a local retail company 5yrs. ago.Great Trailer 5 months ago I purchased and installed new 12x2inch backing plates, part # 362333 and drums # 363236 just recently I noticed that they were not free backing for my surge System. Got a lame excuse from parts house and have lost all faith in them. My questions are. Question #1 Can I use your part #AKFBBRK L and R backing plates 5.5-7K @ $166+/- x 2 axles Or your #23-342 and 343 7K @ $379+/-X 2 axles. Question #2 Will the drums that purchased work with your backing plates. Please advise /help me though this , like you always have. Thanks, look forward to your response. Tom N

Hey Tom thanks for your questions. To answer your first question, yes, you can use the # AKFBBRK-7 or the # 23-342-343 free backing hydraulic brake assemblies on your dump trailer. All of these use the same standard 12" x 2" brake shoes. If you are trying to decide between the Dexter brand or our etrailer brand, personally I recommend etrailer brand # AKFBBRK-7. In my experience they are pretty much identical to the dexter brand but for a fraction of the cost. Were it my trailer, I would not hesitate to use our etrailer brand brakes and hubs.
To answer your second question, I was not able to find any references or specs for the hub part number 363236 that you provided. Again, the brakes I mentioned are the standard 12" x 2" size, so as long as your hubs are made to work with this size brake assembly, which it sounds like they are, everything will work together fine. The Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K is a good example of a compatible hub if you want to compare some specs. Virtually all of the 7K axles are made to use this standard sizing so I imagine you will be good to go.
As always you can feel free to reach out to me if you have further questions.
