Sensitivity Range of the MS-913 Back Up Sensor when installed on a Chrysler Town and Country Minivan

Question:

How effective will this unit be installed on a Chrysler T&C minivan where the license plate is located somewhat above the bumper area on rear opening door? Will it sense objects down nearer to the ground?

The Hopkins Backup Sensor System, item # HM60100VA, is designed to detect items directly behind the vehicle and straight out. I spoke with my contact at Hopkins and he explained that the backup sensor would detect items at the ground for a distance of 5-1/2 feet, or so. Also the unit will not pickup items very near to the vehicle once the item is past where the sensor can detect the item.

Say a box is laying on the ground 15 feet behind your vehicle. At a point where you get within 5-1/2 feet of the tire the sensor will tell you something is there. The sensor will continue to let you know the box is there, and the beep will become more frequent, until you get so close to it that the sensors are no longer able to detect it. You can figure about a 45 degree angle down, on your Town and Country, from the sensor to the ground for the distance closest to the vehicle that the sensor can pickup an item close to the vehicle.

I produced a short video showing how the sensor will work at the rear of your vehicle with the license plate higher up.
