Using Two Backup Cameras with One Monitor on a 2014 Ram 1500 Quad Cab

Question:

I am interested in mounting a camera on the back of my 2014 Ram 1500 Quad cab short bed with brake/tow package, which seems simple enough. The twist is that I would also like to mount a camera on the back of my enclosed 6x12 trailer. I see that I can purchase the camera/plate bracket separately. Can I wire the basic package up to the truck, then mount a camera on the back of the trailer with a length of wire to the hitch, and just unplug the truck camera wire and plug in the trailer camera wire? I havent noticed whether or not I can purchase extra wire as well. I prefer the Hopkins based on its good reviews and prefer wired to wireless.

The camera is not available by itself for Hopkins back up camera system # HM60195VA. I think you might have seen # HM60100VA which does not include a camera, just back up sensors. But if you did have 2 cameras you could use one monitor for both but would have to manually plug in the one you wanted to view.

What I recommend instead is to use the Swift Hitch 2 camera system, # SH03D. The wireless cameras have a transmission distance of 200 and 300 feet, respectively, so a lost signal between a camera and the monitor is unlikely. This system will provide exactly what you need without having to permanently mount anything.
