Recommended Gas Struts and Mounting Brackets for a Custom Tailgate On a 1991 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Im looking for kind of a tailgate assist strut. I built a custom swing down tire holder for my 1991 Jeep Wrangler. It swings down, instead of to the side. Works good, but swings down too fast. Im attempting to slow down the rate of travel down. Is it possible a DeeZee tailgate assist could slow the rate of downward fall? I would weld tabs to attach to the tire frame. Or is there perhaps another product that could work better? The tire and frame weighs approx. 100 lbs. Thanks

With the DeeZee Tailgate Assist Custom Tailgate-Lowering System for Classic Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra # DZ43100 being custom fit for certain YMM vehicles, I'd actually recommend using a standard gas strut # 372-2300-150 instead.

This shock has a compression force of 150 lbs, an extended length of 20", and a compressed length of 11.41". This strut uses a standard 10mm ball socket to connect, so if you don't have any the Gas Shock Mounting Brackets # 372BR-12553 is what you'll need.
