Converting A 10K Gross Weight Flatbed Trailer From Hydraulic Brakes To Electric

Question:

Hi, I’m converting my 10k gross flat bed trailer from hydraulic brakes to electric. I see the backing plate kits and I’d like to reuse my 12x2 drums. *Will the old drums work with the new electric brakes?* Also do you sell a made in USA electric brake kits, and a 2 5/16 coupler to weld on that’s made in USA? Thanks

We can definitely help with that. To answer your first question, yes, you can use the old drums with the new electric brakes. The 12" x 2" brake assemblies are standard for both hydraulic and electric drum brakes. Provided everything is still in good, usable condition you can absolutely reuse them.

To answer your second question, yes, we do offer made in the USA electric brake assemblies. All of the Dexter brand brakes are made here in the USA. For a 12" x 2" assembly, we recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-464-465.

For a made in USA 2-5/16" coupler, we have the Dexter # T1755000 which is made to be welded to a 3" wide trailer tongue. There are also bolt-on options like the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13203-52.

You may also need a 7-way plug like part # WG54006-043. We recommend running your electrical connections thru a Junction Box # 3375601101. We also have brake wire # 12-2-1 which is sold by the foot if you are in need.
