Brake Controller Shows N.C. when Trailer is Connected to 2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Question:

I have a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder with factory Tow Package. The following are the items I have that are part of this question: 1. 2014 Nissan Pathfinder with Tow Package 2. 2015 Coachmen Clipper 17BH 3. 90885 Prodigy P2 4. 3050-P Wiring Harness for Nissans Ive correctly located the trailer brake harness behind the dash and connected the Tekonsha 3050-p wire harness. I then plugged the 3050-P into the back of the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller. When I connect the 7-pin connector from Travel Trailer to vehicle, the Brake Controller shows N.C.. Obviously it means Not Connected... All brake lights, travel trailer lights and turn signals are visible and working on the Travel Trailer. When using the manual slide lever on the Prodigy P2, my vehicles brake lights up too. Below are the remedies Ive tried, but have not been successful: 1. Exchanged the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller and 3050-P wire harness for new one. Plugged into vehicle, plugged 7-pin connector from Trailer, no success. Still getting NC. 2. Tried connecting my vehicle with Brake Controller and wire harness installed to my friends similar Travel Trailer, no success. Still getting NC. 3. My friend connected his 2014 Infiniti QX60Infinitis version of Pathfinder with same Prodigy P2 Brake Controller and 3050-P wire harness into my Travel Trailer, success.... shows C for connected. Questions 1. Could the problem be with my 2014 Nissan Pathfinder? If so, what issues/items should I be looking for? Blown Fuse? 2. Could it be the 7-Pin Connection port of my vehicle? 3. Could it be a loose wire somewhere? Loose ground wire? 4. When using the manual slide lever on the Prodigy P2, is the vehicles brake lights supposed to light up too? or only the Travel Trailer?

It is possible that there is a blow fuse or relay related to the tow package wiring on your 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. Use the vehicle owner's manual to find the locations of the fuses/relays to check them.

It very well could be a loose or missing connection. The blue wire on the brake controller sends back voltage to the trailer brakes and to check for a connected trailer. What you can do is use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the brake output pin on the 7-Way while someone fully applies the manual override on the brake controller.

The tester should light up. But if it does not then that indicates that the voltage is not getting back to the 7-Way. You would need to trace the wire as best as you can to look for a break or loose connection in the wiring. Or you could replace the wire and run one of your own using # 10-1-1, (sold in one-foot increments) and connect it directly to the blue wire at the back of the controller.

Also make sure that the controller is mounted with the range specified by the instructions. Strange things can happen when controllers are tilted or turned to the side. Also make sure that the output setting is set high enough.

Check the trailer connectors on the vehicle and trailer and make sure they are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. It does not sound like an issue on the trailer side based on all of the testing you have done.

The vehicle brake lights are supposed to come on with the manual override. On some controllers you can turn this feature off. But it is required by law in California.

I have included a couple of help articles that cover testing and troubleshooting brake controllers for you as well.
