Wiring 4 to 7-Way Trailer Connector Adapter on 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser for Prodigy RF Brake Control
Question:
I have the OEM tow package for my 2010 FJ Cruiser and have also purchase the Curt Echo and Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector, 30717. Just wondering what else I would need in order to install those two parts. Appreciate if you can let me know what other parts I need to buy.

In addition to the brake controller # C51180 and the 4 to 7-Way adapter, # 30717, you will need some additional wiring and a circuit breaker. The Echo brake controller does not require that all of the loose wires on the adapter be installed. It only needs the regular light functions (which are provided by the 4-Way that you plugged into the adapter), the white ground wire, and the power wire. The white wire will ground to the vehicle frame.
The blue wire will not be used since the brake controller is mounted on the trailer. And the yellow wire, for reverse lights, is only needed if the trailer requires it. If so you would splice into a reverse light wire behind the vehicle tail light.
For wire you will need about 20 feet of wire # 10-1-1 (sold in increments of one foot). Attach one end to the black wire on the adapter. Then route the wire under the vehicle and up into the engine compartment near the battery. Avoid areas that may pinch or burn the wire.
You can secure the wire to the underside of the vehicle using wire ties. Under the hood you will need to mount a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540, near the battery. Cut the wire you ran to length saving the extra wire. Connect the end of the wire you ran to the AUX post on the circuit breaker.
Then using the extra wire, attach one end to the BAT post and the other end to the positive battery terminal. You will need a couple of ring terminals such as # 44-5356A. I have included a link to our help article on routing power wires for you.
