What To Do If Your Curt A16 Slider Base Has Play And Is Making Loud Clunking Noises
Question:
I have a curt slider in a 2019 super duty. I have had the hitch for 4 years. There is a loud clunking on start and stops that is actually coming from the slide mechanism. There is considerable play between the hitch frame and the slide rods. Is there any solution to this? It seems like it just started or has at least just gotten worse.

It sounds like the locking mechanism for your sliding base is wearing and in need of replacement or your slide rods are wearing and coming loose. Since these are handling a lot of weight and there isn't a good way to ensure that the customer is installing the components correctly Curt won't sell the parts separately and you would need to purchase a completely new base for your Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ford Towing Prep Package # C16520-16020. For the Ford specific base you would need part # C16020. If you have the base rail version you would need part # C16560 instead.
