Replacement Recommendation for Dexter Axle 8-201 Hub Assembly on Older Horse Trailer

Question:

I have an old horse trailer ~2001? with Dexter P-15 Model SLR axles SN D-6387239 and 8-201 hubs. I think the wheel was put on loose by *someone* and it rattled until it broke all the studs off. I can put new studs in if you can point me in the right direction on a stud/nut set, but Im also curious what the right replacement axle assembly would be if I want to just swap out the entire axle.

We've got you covered!

To replace your wheel bolts you need the Dexter Wheel Bolt # 7-262 which is a 1/2" diameter and 2-11/16" long. Since your hub and drum assembly looks to be pretty worn though I recommend just replacing the whole thing so you have completely new bearings and a seal as well. To replace the whole drum assembly you'll need part # 8-201-5UC3-EZ.

The bearings that come with this kit match your application (I checked with my contact at Dexter Axle) but you will want to measure the spindle where the grease seal sits and ensure that is 2.125" diameter so we know this grease seal matched exactly.

When it comes to a replacement axle, you have a torsion axle so the only replacement we have is from Timbren with their kit # ASR5200S01. If you ended up going this route then you'll want the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K instead because it comes with a grease seal that has a 2.250" inner diameter.

You can also swap out your brakes with part # AKEBRK-7-SA for an electric kit or part # AKFBBRK-7 if your trailer has hydraulic brakes.
