Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Not Activating & Red Light On Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller
Question:
Light on it is red, and trailer brake hasn’t worked properly! I was wondering what this would mean? I created an identical longer cable so it could work properly reaching to the back of my Toyota 4Runner, however I’m wondering if this was part of the problem? What are your thoughts? I would love to have this work properly! Thank you!

The red light on the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR may have different meanings. If the red light is solid when pressing the brakes or applying the manual override then it is indicating power is being sent to the trailer brakes as normal. Do understand this is a proportional controller so if you are not traveling at speed and the controller does not see the inertia of stopping it will not send enough power to activate the brakes. If the vehicle is at speed you when lit but not activating the brakes you will want to check for any shorts on the brake wire or bad magnets on the brakes which would cause the power to bypass activating the brakes.
If the light is flashing red it indicates there is a voltage drop between the trailer ground and vehicle ground. This could mean a short in the wiring either on your vehicle or the trailer. Depending on your experience with electrical wiring this may be something best left to being inspected by the professionals.
