Curt TriFlex Brake Control Shows Settings When Not Connected to Trailer or Locks Up Trailer Brakes
Question:
I have 2013 Toyota tundra with C51140 controller. Unit has power but sometimes it shows settings display when not connected to trailer. Now I touch brakes when connected to trailer they only lock up. Cannot adjust controller to stop problem.

It sounds like the sensitivity is set high. The closer the sensitivity lever is to the driver, the more aggressive the brakes will be.
There could also be a short in your vehicle side trailer connector. Check the vehicle and trailer side connectors for any dirt or corrosion inside and out. A short could cause some of these problems and others.
Another possible problem is how the controller is mounted. The controller can only be mounted 70 degrees nose up or 20 degrees nose down. The instructions imply that the controller can be tilted or turned to the side as much as 20 degrees but I strongly recommend keeping it as straight and level as you possibly can for the best performance.
