What Parts are Needed to Convert a Toyota Tundra with a 4-Way Connector to a 5-Way Connector
Question:
I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra with a pre-wired 4-flat plug my new trailer has a 5-flat plug and I am trying to determine if I need to use part # C59496 Upgraded HD Modulite circuit protected wiring harness to complete the installation properly or if current wiring is sufficient. I know that I will need part #20036 adapter 4-5 and 20046 bracket. Is the wiring harness necessary?

Expert Reply:
If the 4-Way flat came on the truck from the Toyota factory, there would be no need to buy an Upgraded HD Modulite harness like part # C59496. The truck would have all the necessary electrical components in place.
You would just need a 4-Way to 5-Way adapter like part # 20036. The blue wire is then connected to the reverse light wire on the truck if the trailer uses the blue wire for reverse lights. Occasionally the blue wire can be used for trailer brakes on a trailer. You could then use bracket part # TR20046 to hold the connector in place.
