Comparing The Blue Ox And Curt Baseplate For A 2021 GMC Canyon

Question:

Need to install a base plate on a 2021 GMC Canyon elevation 4x4 Already have the tow bar and brake control duo play and stay . The blue ox seems to be mounted very low and the curt is up higher? I will need the reinstall kit 2nd vehicle kit SM6270for the brake control do you recommend the curt C88FR? Will the Demco SM 99945 coachlink work with an older stay and play? What about a wiring kit for the brake and stop lights on the canyon, I see some that just are plug in no splicing? Motorhome is 2016 Jayco Precept 7 wire round and 4 wire, would like one coil wire ass’y from MH to Dingy?

The Curt Custom Base Plate Kit # C88FR is going to sit higher than the Blue Ox # BLU93FR, as well as all of the other options available so it's really going to come down to your personal preference and the brand of tow bar you chose. Both the Blue Ox and Curt baseplates are going to be compatible with Blue Ox tow bars so the Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7380 you purchased will be compatible with both. I personally prefer the Blue Ox since it sits lower and would look better with the fascia.

You can get the second vehicle kit for your Demco Stay-In-Play system with part # SM6270. The Coachlink Monitor # SM99945 would work with your system but you'll need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751472 to attach to the red wire on the Coachlink since your Canyon's brake light switch wire isn't useable.

There currently aren't any plug-in tow bar wiring kits available for your 2021 GMC Canyon so you'd have to go with a splice-in option like the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will include a 7-wire to 6-wire cable so that you can have everything run through one cable. It will splice into the factory tail light wiring on your Canyon and display your motorhome's traffic signals through the tail lights on the Canyon.

Since the battery needs to be disconnected while towing I recommend also picking up the Roadmaster Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 to make connecting/disconnecting the battery as easy as pressing a button. You can also install a charge line kit # RM-156-25 to keep your Canyon's battery charged while you tow.
